PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear School Community,

It is my great pleasure to write to you for the second edition of the newsletter this term. There are many events that have taken place during this term and I am very pleased overall. I would like to share some briefly.

The Naplan 2019, will be online at our campus. Last Thursday, Year 3 and Year 5 students sat for the Coordinated Practice Test (CPT) in our ICT Lab. This opportunity allowed us to test our internet connection and the computer systems, as well as to give the students the chance to be familiarised with the test format. There will be no report for CPT. The actual Naplan will commence on May 14, 2019.

Most of our Year 5 and Year 6 students camped for three days in Melbourne. The feedback I received from students was excellent. The camps are an important part of our curriculum and students improved their knowledge and skills immensely. I would like to thank Miss Height and Mrs. Malhi for organising the senior camp for this year.

It is a requirement for all schools in Victoria, to plan and rehearse regularly in any emergencies including fire, bomb and intruder threats. We conduct regular drills of Evacuation (all students and staff gather at a location outside the school) and Lock-Down (all students and staff stay in the classrooms, doors locked). The latter drill was scheduled last Thursday. Besides this, we also provide annual training for all staff members, the last one of which will be held next week.

We celebrated Diversity Week last week. On Monday March 18th, some of our Year 4 students performed an Indian Dance at the launching of the Diversity Week event at Kids’ Town, organised by the Shepparton City Council. On Friday March 22nd, with the help of our parents, we celebrated Harmony Day with a family picnic and parade. Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank the organising committee, Mrs. Singh, Mrs. Koktas and Mrs. Almugotir for their hard work.

The next week is swimming week for Foundation students to Year 4’s. Please make sure your child brings his/her swimming clothes to school next week.

The first parents’ night took place on February 27th in our library. The program started with the presentations by our school coordinators, Mrs. Pandher and Mrs. Malhi and followed by a Q& A session. Afterwards, refreshments were served. I would like to thank our parents for your continuous support. The pdf version of the presentations is below for your information.

The interim reports will be sent home by the end of next week.

Happy holidays!

Regards,
Mr. Adem Engin
Principal
